Friday, September 22nd

Hello Families!

It was so wonderful to see all the families who were able to come to our Building Our Community of Learners evening last night.  The students were so excited to share their work and classroom with you.  It was truly a pleasure to have a chance to meet and have a quick chat with most of our families.

Important Dates:

Wednesday, Sept. 27 - Picture Day

Thursday, Sept. 28 - Glenbow Ranch Field Trip (Observance of Orange Shirt Day)

Friday, Sept. 29 - National Truth and Reconciliation Day - No School

Important Information:

If you have not yet signed and returned your child's Glenbow Ranch Field trip forms, please do so on Monday.  If they do not return the forms, you child will be unable to attend.

Our Learning:

Literacy:

  • We are continuing to build our routines and expectations during Daily 5
  • During read to self, we practiced staying in one spot, reading the whole time and are building our stamina for reading
  • We are practicing our letter formations and strengthening our understanding of letter sounds and how to blend them together to make words
  • In writing we practiced GUMing it when we come a word we are unsure of how to spell
  • Ask your child what it means to GUM it
  • Next week we will move into expectations of working on writing during Daily 5 and continue to practice our letters and letter combinations

Math:
  • We are building our knowledge of the different patterns in our environment and were able to translate some of the ones we can see in our classroom
  • Ask your child about the flower pattern problem solving we did, as well as the shorts and pants problem. (HINT: what colour was the 11th flower and how many shorts where in the line up?)
  • Next week we will start working towards representing numbers in a variety of ways and connecting that knowledge to patterns

Inquiry:
  • We were able to finish our Identity Maps and continued to discuss our individual roles in our classroom community
  • As it was International Day of Peace on Thursday and this years theme was Actions for Peace, we had discussed on what peace is to us and how we can take action to make Eric Harvie School a peaceful place for everyone
  • Please see below of our dove artwork as a symbol for peace
Thank you for reading!
